Get On the Boat

It was an early morning after a short night. We felt a bit like herded cattle working our way through the lines to board the ship, but we made it aboard just fine. Our five hour cruise began well.

The first thing we all did on the ship was sit down to a delicious buffet breakfast in the main dining hall. Fresh fruit, grits, eggs, ham, sausage, bacon, milk, orange juice, pastries, cereal... we all ate our fill. (I want to clearly paint a picture that no one walked away from the table hungry. We all had plenty to eat.)

Then it was off to explore our new-found playground. There was BINGO in one of the lounges. A few signed up for a ping-pong tournament. A couple of our boys just wanted to sit in the casino (there was no money exchanged... they just wanted to hang out like James Bond). Some explored the observation deck and enjoyed the views and playing in the very strong winds. Several of our guys jumped into what the cruise line called their "Real Man" contest. I'll just say it was a talent show with Tarzan yells. Rumor is we have some video that may be available. Everyone seemed pretty excited about our boat ride...for a little while.

Soon we were out in the open water, and it was windy. And the water was choppy. And the boat was rockin'! ALOT!

Our cruise turned into quite a rough ride. Several team members decided that Dramamine was a good friend. For others, it was too little too late for the Dramamine. This is were the foreshadowing of full breakfast.. um.. 'comes up'. A few were sick and aquainted themselves with the little white bags found around the ship. The tossing was so rough that during lunch (and there were only a few of us that even wanted to eat lunch) a serving spoon flew off the buffet and slid across the floor. (Note to parents: it was all very safe, just a whole lot of moving around.)

We arrived safe and sound shortly after one o'clock. We were all excited to finally be in the Bahamas (and off that rocking boat!).

Just wanted you to know that I've been praying for the team's safety and effectiveness. Since I have the SFUMC's names, those prayers have been specific. Sorry about the rough ride. Down the road, this will be a good "story" to share -- right now, probably not too funny. Love to all, Nora Ford
